Mariposa is located on the western slope of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. Located in central California, the town of Mariposa is approximately 40 miles from Yosemite National Park.  The population of the entire county is close to 17,000. The elevation in Mariposa County ranges from around 1,000 feet at the western boundaries to 11,000 feet on the east side.  The county consists of 900,000 plus acres of land, with 450,000 plus acres being publicly owned by Yosemite National Park, Bureau of Land Management, and Sierra/Stanislaus National Forest.  Summers are typically 90 to 100 degrees and winter temperatures can drop below freezing with snow in the higher elevations. Mariposa enjoys 300 plus "sun days" a year.  Locals and visitors can enjoy hiking, fishing, skiing, mountain climbing, biking, horse riding, camping, and lodging.   It is a rural community with a friendly small town atmosphere.
